Salicru is improving the quality of the voltage supplied to Egypt’s pyramids and archaeological sites

Salicru has installed EMI3 series voltage stabilisers with power ratings of 15 and 35 kVA to ensure the quality of supply for the lighting and security circuits in the Pyramids of Giza—Cheops, Khafre and Menkaure—as well as in several complexes in Luxor. The installation forms part of a modernisation project being carried out by TRAGSA.

The intervention is just one of a series of technological improvements being made at important heritage sites, including the pyramids in Cairo and the Temple of Luxor, the Hatshepsut complex (Deir el-Bahari), Medinet Habu, the Ramesseum and several tombs in the Valley of the Kings, in Luxor, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The equipment being installed as part of the project being implemented by TRAGSA is designed to provide a stable mains voltage, thereby protecting lighting, controllers, cameras, and security systems from fluctuations, surges, and drops that could compromise the condition and service continuity of sensitive equipment.

Inside the Pyramids of Cheops, Khafre and Menkaure, the old lighting in the passageways and rooms has been replaced with a new LED system. At the same time, progress is being made on the installation of fibre optics for the security cameras that will monitor both the exterior perimeter and the interior of the monuments, as well as on configuring the servers at the Giza Control Centre. In Luxor, work has been completed on nearly all the lighting projects for the most important temples and tombs, and a perimeter detection project has been presented to the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA).

The EMI3s provide precise and robust regulation in the event of mains fluctuations, reducing incidents and extending the service life of connected equipment, a key aspect in installations with demanding availability requirements and environmental exposure conditions. Additionally, some of the monuments have incorporated three-phase Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems in Salicru cabinets to ensure temporary autonomy and the safe shutdown of critical systems in the event of power outages.

This project has been made possible through our collaboration with Alfa Tech, Salicru’s official distributor in Egypt, which has a solid track record in the country and numerous success stories in implementing electrical protection solutions. Its experience and knowledge strengthen Salicru’s presence in the region and ensure excellence in projects with the most demanding technical requirements.
