Salicru combines the power offered by solar inverters with the reliability provided by UPS units

For the first time, Salicru has successfully implemented a hybrid system that combines two modular UPS units with three solar inverters and Salicru's energy manager, achieving a stable, modular solution that offers the customer both electrical continuity and energy efficiency.

Combining UPS systems with energy from photovoltaic inverters can be technically challenging. However, Salicru's development engineering teams, from both the UPS and solar divisions, have managed to make it a reality with an installation that represents a real turning point in efforts to integrate backup power and renewable energy generation.

It is a modular parallel system, consisting of two 500 kW SLC ADAPT2 UPS units and three 100 kW EQUINOX2 T solar inverters, which required specific development to coordinate both technologies. The incorporation of up to 300 kW of additional solar energy downstream of the backup equipment necessitated advanced adjustments to the SLC Energy Manager smart meter and the updating of custom firmware for the inverters. Thanks to the Energy Manager's active power control loop, the system regulates photovoltaic generation in real time to prevent any unwanted feed-in. This dynamic control ensures continual DC bus stability and prevents “zero power” risk conditions, guaranteeing reliable and continuous operation.

As a result, the customer now has a robust energy system capable of maintaining an uninterrupted power supply to its entire plant and harnessing up to 300 kW of free energy from the sun, combining electrical safety and sustainability under the Salicru brand.

Hot on the heels of this success story, work is now underway on the potential to connect much of the Salicru UPS range. The solution is already available for SLC CUBE 3+ devices, as their rectifier has bidirectional operating capacity, allowing battery discharge current to be recorded even when grid supply is present. Salicru dedicates 5% of its turnover to R&D, three times the average for European companies.
