Adapters for seamless integration with IP networks

To achieve seamless integration of a UPS unit within an IT network, it is best not to rely exclusively on a computer. For this reason, Salicru has designed an Ethernet adapter for the popular Single Network Management Protocol (SNMP), which enables the UPS unit to be totally independent without the need to have an associated computer or server. This adapter has two versions, box and insertable card, for the smart slots of Salicru’s equipment. Additionally, the possibility exists of also connecting temperature and humidity sensors. This technology solution’s most notable features includes:

• Web-based monitoring of the main variables and statuses of each unit (power failure, network recovery, inverter failure, transfer to bypass, etc.).
• Transmission of alerts via email or SMS (depending on the availability of the IT environment).
• Ability to integrate with SNMP platforms (Nagios).
• Proper shutdown of files and servers using RCCMD software.
• MOD-BUS protocol for integration with industrial applications (optionally MODBUS RS232 or MODBUS RS485).
• As optional elements for cases in which it is essential to have ambient data for the room in which the UPS unit is located. This software features a temperature and humidity sensor which allows this data to be included within the monitoring software itself without the need to resort to a totally external system. It also features the option of having a display to provide an excellent view of the parameters of the UPS unit over long distances.

Remote applications

The management and monitoring of a UPS unit in heterogeneous IT networks, in which different systems coexist, becomes virtually impossible if common software is not used. Remote Control Command (RCCMD) is an application that allows simultaneous and secure shutdown of the different servers or workstations of 95% of existing platforms. As with the most complete monitoring software, RCCMD is able to send messages or commands to different clients in the network. The various actions are executed by customisable scripts and it is compatible with all operating systems, even virtualised systems such as vmware, citrix and hyperv.

Unlimited UPS management

For networks that have more than one UPS unit, in which monitoring needs to be concentrated in one control point, Salicru has another innovative solution: the UPS Network Management System (UNMS II). This software enables the multiple installations of all units with an SNMP web adapter and sensors to be managed via Ethernet. The UNMS II also has different licence levels, which vary depending on the number of UPS units to be managed.

The best control of UPS units

For single workstations or small IT networks, the UPS units used for their protection are single phase with low or medium power, which makes it necessary to implement them within the management system. Let’s suppose that a computer is switched on, nobody is working on it and a power failure occurs that lasts longer than the back-up that the UPS unit can provide. In this situation, the computer will shut off abruptly, any open files could be lost and the hardware could suffer damage. To avoid these situations, the solution is to have software that, prior to the UPS battery running out, saves the open files and properly shuts down the operating system. WINPOWER and VIEWPOWER software enables the computers in which it is installed to be monitored and shut down, and sends emails, SMS messages or broadcasts, among other functions.
