The use of information and communication technologies to achieve sustainability in an urban centre is one of the objectives of the Smart City project being developed by Rivas Vaciamadrid Council.
Some of the specific examples contemplated by this Madrid municipality’s project are to reduce the electrical expenditure caused by street lighting in cities, to introduce smart traffic light systems to reduce traffic jams and decrease emissions of greenhouse effect gases, and to reduce water use by means of smart drain systems, etc.
Salicru is also taking part in this innovative technological project with its ILUEST+ range of lighting flow dimmer-stabilisers, which contribute to extending the useful life of the lighting units in the public streets and enable smart management of public lighting, with savings of up to 40% on the electricity bill. Similarly, they contribute to improving citizens’ quality of life with uniform, comfortable and less polluting lighting.
Rivas Vaciamadrid’s Smart City recently competed with municipalities in 19 countries and more than 100 projects presented at the World Smart City awards, and was also a finalist in the @asLAN prizes developed by the @asLAN Association.
The technical features of Salicru’s ILUEST+ range will help to make the star target of Rivas Vaciamadrid Council’s project reality, which is zero CO2 emissions by 2030 as part of a line of action that integrates ecological and economic sustainability.
In Spain there are already 15,000 units installed, with joint potential energy savings of over 558,000 MWh a year, more than 130,000 fewer tons of CO2 and economic savings of over 50 million Euros.
