Supplying a 15 million litre water reservoir for irrigating a 20 hectare vineyard estate is the aim of the CV30-PV series devices in the ControlVIT range, which have been supplied by Salicru to the L’Almirall de Puigdespí, in the wine region of Conca de Barberà, Tarragona. Variable frequency drives are used for the solar powered pumping, which use radiation captured by solar panels as an energy source.
With the aim of implementing an efficient irrigation process that contributes to obtaining quality wines, 3 devices of between 5 and 15 kW were installed at the ‘Montagudell’ estate in the village of Vimbodí, Tarragona, One device pumps water from an underground well to the reservoir and the other two devices directly irrigate the vineyards.
The solar light energy obtained from the solar panels (direct current) connected to the CV30-PV variable frequency drives is converted into alternating current that supplies these devices and submersible pumps, so that water can be extracted from the ground or from the wells.
This system is highly useful in locations that need a reliable, cost-effective water supply with a long service life and low maintenance costs. It is also environmentally friendly as it does not cause pollution or noise.
Besides agricultural irrigation, other applications for these variable frequency drives for solar-powered pumping are domestic consumption in isolated areas, livestock water supply, fish farming, municipal and forestry irrigation, desert control, swimming pool motors or purifiers, etc.
Advanced performance
The CV30-PV series has an advanced MPPT algorithm that enables the tracking of the maximum power point of the solar panels, an efficiency of 99% and automatic start-up or shutdown depending on the solar radiation.
Furthermore, there are some very interesting optional elements, such as:
- The BOOST MOD-320-PV module that enables the number of solar panels required to power the system to be greatly reduced, resulting in considerable financial savings and simplified installation.
- An automatic switching module that enables the variable drive to switch to mains or generator when the energy available in the solar panels is insufficient and switches back when the energy is sufficient.
- Solar powered pumping cabinets, a complete solution for solar powered pumping facilities that use pumps of up to 5.5kW. Depending on the model, they can be mounted indoors or outdoors, and offer the option of isolated systems (powered solely by solar panels), systems with automatic switchover to the power generator or mains, and systems with manual switchover. To ensure full control of the system, the cabinets also include a water level sensor and digital clock/timer. This can be used to protect the pump against dry operation, and to set the system’s operating times.
Solutions that reduce possible assembly and configuration problems to a minimum, and offer the farmer a wide range of competitive advantages for optimising the water management of their agricultural holdings.
