Island Mode: complete autonomy with a hybrid inverter

In a photovoltaic system with storage, off-grid mode—also known as island mode—enables the battery-powered hybrid inverter to function independently, even when disconnected from the mains, ensuring a reliable power supply during critical situations through genuine energy self-sufficiency.

In island mode, if you have a correctly dimensioned and connected battery bank, the inverter manages the energy generated by the solar panels and stores it in the batteries, ensuring that the backup loads are powered solely by these sources. Once activated, the inverter operates independently of the grid, and if solar generation is insufficient, the batteries serve as an alternative energy source. When consumption is lower than production, the surplus energy is used to recharge the batteries, while always adhering to the load management parameters set by the system. This capability makes island mode a reliable solution for environments with poor grid quality or no electrical infrastructure, ensuring optimal energy resilience in decentralised residential, commercial and industrial installations.

In OFF-GRID mode, Salicru’s Equinox2 HSX, HT and HT+ inverters guarantee coverage of up to 110% of the equipment’s rated power, a capacity designed to absorb temporary consumption peaks without compromising system stability. Salicru’s photovoltaic inverters offer various other operating modes to optimise performance based on the specific type of installation: general mode, which prioritises self-consumption and battery charging with solar surpluses; UPS mode, which ensures rapid battery charging to handle potential power outages; and advanced functions under development such as PeakLoad, which is designed to manage consumption peaks.
