Photovoltaic self-consumption gains momentum

Without doubt, renewable energies will play an increasingly more important role in the energy mix, as part of the drive to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and curb global warming. Governments, companies and consumers alike are aware of the need to consume less energy and to generate it in a sustainable and economical way, factors that have established self-consumption as a growing trend.

Generating our own energy

With increasing frequency, the rooftops of our homes are being covered with solar panels. This enables us to produce our own electricity, shrink our ever-increasing energy bills, and reduce our dependence on the conventional energy grid. Moreover, we achieve all this by making use of energy from the sun, the cleanest and most environmentally friendly of all power sources. Much of Spain enjoys a climate characterised by a high annual average for hours of sunshine, making it the ideal location for photovoltaic energy to continue breaking records and progressing towards the target of zero greenhouse gas emissions.

This combination of environmental and economic factors means that self-consumption is gaining ground within a sector undergoing rapid expansion. This self-consumption can be connected to the mains network or kept separate, i.e. off-grid. In the case of the former (which is the option we recommend), the excess energy generated can be injected into the network. The latter option does not allow for this possibility. Self-consumption can be individual or shared by several homes or residents, depending on the type of residential environment.

The figures supplied by the Spanish Photovoltaic Association (UNEF) confirm that self-consumption is growing rapidly in the residential sector. In 2021 a further 1,203 MW of capacity was added via installations of this type, representing an increase of more than 100% over 2020 and accounting for nearly one-third of new photovoltaic energy generation. A favourable regulatory environment has also helped to stimulate this healthy demand.

Solar inverters for self-consumption

Salicru is making a decisive contribution to this sector through its EQUINOX2 series of solar inverters. The company’s signature reliability, efficiency, functionality and design excellence are particular features of its single-phase, three-phase and hybrid inverters, which can be connected to the mains and are able to provide from 2 to 125 kW of power, depending on the model. Moreover, their casings offer a high degree of protection, enabling the inverters to be mounted indoors or outdoors.

The communication options (Wi-Fi, LAN, 4G, GPRS), including the ability to upload data to the cloud, combine with the free EQX-sun app to make monitoring the status of your photovoltaic system extremely easy. As a result, Salicru’s EQUINOX2 inverters are the ideal choice to enable individuals and companies to generate their own energy, save money and contribute to environmental sustainability.
