Salicru contributes to the United Arab Emirates’ first national passenger rail service

Salicru has supplied its SLC ADAPT2 modular UPS systems and DC POWER-L rectifiers to Etihad Rail’s new passenger service, a strategic infrastructure project that marks the beginning of a new era in the country’s rail transport system.

The United Arab Emirates has launched its first national passenger rail service, Etihad Rail, which began operations on 30 June 2026. The project marks a milestone in the development of the country’s public transport system, representing a significant step towards the end goal of creating a rail network that connects all seven emirates and offers a more efficient, comfortable and sustainable transport system.

Salicru contributed to this infrastructure by supplying SLC ADAPT2 modular UPS units and DC POWER-L rectifiers to ensure electrical continuity and the availability of critical systems associated with the line. In railway environments, protecting the power supply is vital for keeping signalling, communications, control and auxiliary systems operational and reducing the risk of operational disruptions.

The first route connects Mohamed bin Zayed City station in Abu Dhabi with Al Hilal City in Fujairah. The journey takes approximately one hour and 45 minutes, and there are currently three daily services in each direction as part of an initial phase of operation that will serve as the basis for the gradual expansion of the service.

The roll-out will continue in phases, with the Dubai and Al Dhaid stations expected to open on 30 September, whilst the Sharjah station is scheduled to open on 30 March 2027. Once the network is complete, Etihad Rail will connect all seven emirates, integrate with other public transport systems and be capable of carrying around 36.5 million passengers a year.
