Salicru opens a subsidiary in Morocco and consolidates its expansion in the Mediterranean Arc

Friday, 13 may 2011

Salicru’s international projection, which started in 1978, has today made it one of the world benchmarks in the design and application of energy solutions. With its own productive centres in Spain and China and subsidiaries in 7 countries, the company is present with its products in services in more than 40 countries. This year, Salicru will also have a new subsidiary in Morocco, a strategic market for the company's exports, as it accounts for 10% of all of its foreign sales.

The opening of the subsidiary is the culmination of a commercial relationship with Morocco which dates back to 2006, when Salicru began to work with a local distributor due to the cultural and social economic peculiarities of this market. In the first quarter of 2011, Salicru bought out this partner to set up its subsidiary in the country.

Since it went into the neighbouring country, Salicru has done considerable market prospection and prescription of the equipment in the company portfolio: This is particularly the case of the Iluest/ light flow reducer-stabilisers, but also medium-range Uninterruptible Power Supplies such as the SLC Twin series and three-phase units such as the SLC Cube3. In a market without a culture of energy saving in public lighting, Salicru’s strategy has been based on organising informative/training meetings to present the product in the main cities of the country, participation in the most important fairs of the sector and personalised contact with the municipal technicians responsible for dealing with street lighting, including providing them with equipment for testing.

In 2009, the Moroccan government began to put out the first public tenders for these kinds of projects, and in just one year, Salicru has won two long-term contracts consisting of installing 222 Iluest units for street lighting in Meknes and Fez, in addition to the 50-odd units previously installed in other geographical areas.
