Salicru equipment for the Madrid-Galicia AVE

For a number of years now, Spain’s AVE high-speed train lines have been equipped with various UPS and DC power systems from Salicru. They will now be joined by the recently opened Madrid-Galicia AVE line, which substantially lowers the journey time between the region of Galicia and the Spanish capital.

The new line is a major undertaking, involving the investment of more than 10.06 billion euros and the construction of around 30 new tunnels, 30 kilometres of viaducts and 119 kilometres of new track. The works were carried out by ADIF.

 

Salicru boasts extensive experience of high-speed rail infrastructure at both the domestic and international level. In Spain, for example, the company has supplied UPS devices, voltage stabilisers and power systems to protect the electricity supply to various facilities on a number of sections of line, including Madrid-Lleida-Barcelona, Barcelona-Figueres, Vandellós-Camp de Tarragona, La Sacra-Toledo, Córdoba-Málaga, Segovia-Valladolid and Madrid-Extremadura.

 

At the international level, Salicru has supplied similar equipment for high-speed lines in Turkey, Mecca (Saudi Arabia) and the Cairo-Alexandria rail corridor in Egypt.

 

Efficient solutions

The equipment supplied by Salicru for this new high-speed line consists of nine DC-POWER-L rectifiers, with an output voltage of 125V and a current of 100A + 100A. They will chiefly be used as rectifiers/battery chargers to supply the safety and protection systems for the autotransformer centres on the Pedralba-Ourense section of line.

 

Salicru’s DC POWER-L range of rectifiers/battery chargers is based on microprocessor-controlled thyristor technology and provides reliable, maximum-quality protection for critical DC loads. The series covers the range between 10A and 800A, with outputs from 24 to 220VDC. The output accuracy is better than +/-1% and the devices are designed to charge open or sealed lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries.

 

All of the alarms and the monitoring and status indicators (both display and LEDs) are managed via a digital control system. Each type of battery has particular charging requirements, which are managed by the controller. The systems are fully customisable, so they can be tailored to meet the specific characteristics and needs of each client and application.

 

The equipment’s robust design means that the facility will require little maintenance and can operate for long periods without special attention.

 

The DC POWER-L systems are designed to protect DC loads of maximum criticality and to operate in extremely harsh and demanding operating environments, such as power stations, electrical substations, oil and gas pipelines, petrochemical plants, mines, railways, telecommunications facilities, hospitals, industrial plants, etc.
