In areas where typhoons are commonplace, such as in Japan and Korea, wind farms are subject to specific regulations that dictate that wind turbines must be able to operate autonomously during times in which there are strong winds.
This operation enables the rotor blades to be placed in an appropriate position and prevents them from being violently sheared off by the wind.
To make this possible, Salicru has designed and supplied 31 special uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units from its SLC CUBE3+ series (21 to Japan and 10 to Korea), which have been adapted to the specific dimensions and anchorages of these wind farms, and have to enable the wind turbine motors to move freely in weather conditions as adverse as typhoons.
One of the main characteristics of the SLC CUBE3+ UPS is its adaptability and wide range of features, which, together with the high performance provided by its On-line double-conversion technology, make this series the best protection and safety option for a wide variety of environments.
The SLC CUBE3+ units supplied to the two wind farms in Japan and Korea have power ratings of 20 and 100 kVA, respectively.
