Implementation of a UPS
in the fashion retail sector
Success stories

A Swedish textile multinational was planning the installation of its electrical power supply across various points of its retail facilities. These components, essential for daily operations, suffer losses during any interruption: without proper protection, stores face temporary closures, affecting both sales and brand reputation by offering an inconsistent shopping experience.

Requirements
  • The goal is to ensure a continuous and safe power supply for a variety of essential equipment, including:

    • Servers

    • Point of Sale (POS) terminals

    • Internal Data Processing Centres (DPCs)

    • Store lighting and displays

  • Protect many stores against a wide range of electrical disturbances, such as voltage spikes, drops and other anomalies which, depending on the location, are more frequent and could damage sensitive equipment.

  • Be efficient in the use of space, since retail stores aim to dedicate as much floor area as possible to product display, meaning any implemented solution had to be compact in size and energy-efficient.

  • A scalable and flexible solution capable of adapting to changing needs, including the ability to adjust redundancy and power capacity as required. This flexibility ensured the solution could grow alongside the company.

Recommendations
  • Double conversion technology: designed to provide maximum protection against any electrical network anomaly, including power cuts, voltage spikes and drops. This technology ensures that connected equipment receives a constant and clean power supply.

  • Compact and efficient design: a layout that maximises the available store space and ensures energy efficiency, helping to reduce long-term operating costs.

  • Comprehensive protection: capable of protecting a wide range of equipment.

  • Ease of maintenance and management: a system offering monitoring and remote management tools, simplifying maintenance and troubleshooting.

Solution

Salicru has implemented 10, 20 and 30 kVA models of the SLC CUBE 3+ in the multinational’s retail facilities, and later some units were upgraded to the new SLC CUBE4 and SLC CUBE4R models. These systems ensure a continuous and secure power supply. In addition, they allow up to four units to be connected without additional hardware, facilitating both redundancy and scalable power expansion to meet future needs.

SLC CUBE3+
SLC CUBE3+
On-line double-conversion three-phase UPS 7.5 to 200 kVA
Energy efficiency with superior electrical protection
SLC CUBE4
SLC CUBE4
On-line double-conversion three-phase UPS from 7.5 to 80 kVA
The most advanced continuity protection on the market
SLC CUBE4 R
SLC CUBE4 R
Rackmount Double conversion Online UPS from 7.5 to 20 kVA
Outstanding performance in rackmount devices
Conclusions
  • With the installation of Salicru’s UPS systems, stores can continue operating even during power cuts or electrical failures, avoiding unexpected closures and ensuring an optimal shopping experience for customers at all times.

  • The implemented solution grows at the same pace as the business: the systems can be easily expanded if new stores open or power demand increases, without major changes to the existing installation.

  • In addition to protecting equipment, these systems consume less energy and take up minimal space — a key advantage in the retail sector, where every square metre counts for displaying more products and improving profitability.

  • Thanks to remote monitoring and management tools, maintenance is much simpler, as technicians can detect and resolve issues before they impact store operations.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
  • How is the operation of these systems monitored?
The systems include remote management tools that allow their status to be monitored from any location. This enables technicians to anticipate potential faults and keep the electrical network protected at all times.

  • What equipment do the UPS systems protect within a store?
They protect all essential devices: servers, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, screens, lighting systems, routers and computers. In the event of a power failure, all continue operating or shut down safely.

  • How long can the UPS systems supply power during an outage?
It depends on the model and connected load, but they usually allow operations to continue for several minutes or hours — enough time to save data, complete transactions, or start an auxiliary generator if required.

  • Can the UPS systems be integrated into the company’s IT network?
Yes. Thanks to their communication cards and monitoring systems, they can connect to the network and be managed like any other IT device, even from a central control centre.

  • What are the long-term benefits for the company?
Greater operational security, reduced costs from breakdowns or interruptions, improved energy efficiency, and a stronger brand image by ensuring a consistent and high-quality shopping experience.
