One of Salicru's most innovative recent installations took place at the headquarters of the Alcurnia Group in Molina de Segura (Murcia-Spain). Two 500 kVA Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units with lithium-ion batteries from its SLC ADAPT series were fitted for the fruit manufacturer.
The Alcurnia Group is made up of several companies. In addition to the processing company itself, it includes different agricultural concerns that supply quality peaches and apricots for the manufacture of tinned peaches in syrup, marmalades and aseptic product packaging for home and professional use.
The units supplied to the Alcurnia Group protect all the equipment used during the fruit sterilisation process, including PLCs, compressors, conveyor belts, the washing system, etc.
For this installation of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), lithium-ion batteries were fitted as a backup power source, a practice not yet widely employed in the market but one that offers numerous advantages over traditional VRLAs (valve-regulated lead-acid batteries). Among other advantages, lithium-ion batteries have more than double the life expectancy, support up to ten times more discharge cycles, offer four times less self-discharge, maintain performance at high temperatures (40ºC), weigh less, take up less space, and recharge up to four times faster.
The SLC ADAPT series from Salicru comprises configurable 6, 8, 10 and 12-module solutions with online double conversion technology, DSP control and a three-level IGBT inverter. Its shared load redundancy significantly extends the MTBF (mean time between failures) and improves the MTTR (mean time to repair) and maintenance costs.
