Salicru is participating in Spain’s first pre-commercial-scale floating photovoltaic installation in open sea, located in the Port of Valencia. Its design raises the modules above sea level, improving performance and facilitating maintenance.
The Paiporta platform, designed as a catamaran, incorporates 600 bifacial solar panels and forms part of a deployment of two 500 kW units, which will reach a total capacity of 1 MW. For energy management, Salicru has supplied five EQUINOX2 T de 100 kW solar inverters and one EQUINOX2 HT de 12 kW hybrid inverter per module, together with 15 kW of batteries. The hybrid system ensures the supply of the platform’s own services during periods when there is no solar generation.
The equipment has been installed in a container located on the floating structure itself and is connected to earth by means of an underwater cable. The project has been developed by BlueNewables, which will validate this renewable technology under real marine operating conditions. Norinver carried out the installation, adapting the integration of the equipment to the specific requirements of a marine environment.
The initiative forms part of Valencia port’s decarbonisation and energy transition strategy and includes the creation of a test platform for connecting, testing and feeding into the grid renewable marine generation demonstrators at the ports of Valencia and Sagunt. Over the next two years, technical, operational and economic data will be analysed to assess the potential of this solution.
