The Spanish railway infrastructure administrator (ADIF) has called on Salicru to protect the power in the section between Barcelona and Figueres (Girona-Spain) of the high-speed rail line. This section is 131 km long with an international gauge double track and 25 kV electrification. It has the most advanced signalling and communication systems such as ERTMS and GSMR, and is adapted to the most demanding high-speed parameters.
The new infrastructure, which was a veritable challenge to railway engineering, is prepared for speeds of up to 300 km/h and allows passenger and goods circulation. Its line, which starts from Barcelona Sants station and ends at the connection with the international section Figueres-Perpignan, runs through the provinces of Barcelona and Girona. The final section of the high-speed rail line to the French border is expected to open in April.
For this emblematic work, Salicru, a leading company in power electronics, supplied 57 SLC CUBE3 series UPS with powers of between 10 and 60 kVA, in single phase-single phase and single phase-three phase configurations and in a mechanical presentation in accordance with ADIF specifications, and 27 EMi2 voltage stabilisers to servomotor with powers of between 75 and 200 kVA, all in single phase-single phase configurations.
The SLC CUBE3 series UPS will deal with protecting and supplying both the signalling and traffic systems, as well as track manoeuvring, both in single phase input and output and overhead line single phase and three-phase output configurations. The high demands of these kinds of applications, in which the equipment in the technical buildings depends on an overhead line power supply with severe oscillations, high levels of harmonics and strong over- and under-voltages, make the SLC CUBE3 the most versatile and adaptable solution on the market.
Similarly, the long life of the EMi range (available on the market in its latest version, the EMi2) has allowed Salicru to develop considerable experience in the world of stabilisers, a market in which it has been present for over 40 years. These units have been developed to give an answer to applications where perfect power voltage stabilisation is required at critical loads of a complicated nature (strong start-up intensity peaks, considerable reactive character, large powers…), as is the case of railway lines.
