Salicru guarantees the energy supply for the healthcare sector

Hospitals have specific and highly complex energy requirements. For example, in the event of a power cut they must be able to continue with an operation, and their equipment must continue to function. Salicru is involved in a number of different projects at the national and international level that are designed to meet the evolving needs of healthcare facilities.

Hospitales: energía sin pausa

Working in collaboration with the Bender company, Salicru has created UNIS, an isolated uninterruptible system that will be launched at the Hospital Congress in A Coruña this October. This multi-functional modular device enables users to monitor and control the isolated system and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system. The screen interface offers ease of interaction and control, while the open communications ensure easy integration into the hospital’s general system. Salicru is committed to the development of Smart Hospitals: medical centres that use advanced technology to improve patient care, optimise healthcare processes and enhance the interaction between medical professionals and the centre’s electrical systems and equipment.

In Belgium, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in the region of Waregem has recently safeguarded its facilities with the installation of a Salicru UPS system that will protect its key critical services against interruptions to the power supply. The hospital, which is located in the province of West Flanders, first opened its doors 90 years ago and currently has more than 250 beds, almost 800 staff and an annual admission rate in excess of 10,000 patients. Its acquisition of a 160 kVA SLC CUBE 3+ system will provide energy backup for the resuscitation, intensive care and surgical departments. The installation was carried out by MCE UPS, a company that boasts more than 30 years of experience and has collaborated with Salicru over the last decade. The firm specialises in the preparation and provision of UPS equipment for the industrial, healthcare, IT and security sectors.

As part of a major expansion of the NHS hospital Bristol Royal Infirmary, Phoenix Power Solutions has installed two 100 kVA (75 kVA N+1) SLC ADAPT 2 systems in the new high-power switch rooms, with batteries to provide more than three hours of backup in the event of a power cut. The company has also installed an additional 125 kVA (100 kVA N+1) SLC ADAPT 2 system in the adjoining children’s hospital, a 45 kVA system in the eye hospital and a 50 kVA system in the new head office, as well as three 10 kVA SLC TWIN PRO 3 systems and a number of smaller units in other departments throughout the hospital. Additionally, the hospital’s training centre has been fitted with a 30 kVA SLC CUBE 3+ system, while Weston Hospital, which is run by Bristol Royal Infirmary, has received a number of SLC TWIN PRO 3 systems for its equipment rooms, in order to provide critical individual electrical backup for the operating theatres and other essential systems.

At the NHS hospital in South Buckinghamshire, the older UPS units have been gradually replaced with new models. In certain areas where parallel systems are already in place (such as the pathology department), there are plans to replace these outdated devices with an increased number of SLC ADAPT modular units in the near future.

Regardless of the type of system required, Salicru offers a wide range of devices that provide extremely high levels of resilience and redundancy for critical systems and are always backed by continuous maintenance and extreme battery testing.
